7-fold jump in central bank’s net profits

(Indonesia) - Indonesia's central bank has produced a 2001 net profit nearly seven times that of its 2000 result and a welcome confidence boost to the country's embattled banking industry. Bank Indonesia has posted a 17.6 trillion rupiah (US$2.0 billion) profit for 2001, a jump from 2.6 trillion rupiah the previous year. The Bank sees this result as delivering much needed support to the State budget, weighed down by huge domestic and foreign debt servicing costs.
