APCA names new chairman

(10 December 2007 – Australia) Australian Payments Clearing Association (APCA) has appointed former ANZ staffer Russell Rechner as its new chairman. The move takes effect on 1 January 2008.

Rechner replaces Robert Challis who retires after eight years in the role.

Rechner was most recently a member of the Code Compliance Monitoring Committee which was established in 2003 to independently monitor the banking practices and standards of banks which adopted the Code.

Before this, he was director of major projects at ANZ and has also worked outside of banking with Myer and Coles Myer.

Rechner said it was an exciting time in Australia’s payments system with market evolution and new public policy demands.
