BankWest continues big four challenge

BankWest continues big four challenge

(5 October 2007 – Australia) BankWest has continued its bid to challenge the Big Four banks as it announced a high interest transaction account. The retail transaction account, called the ‘BankWest Hero Transaction Account’ will pay five percent interest on balances up to A$5,000.

Ian Corfield, retail chief, BankWest, said that the bank plans to keep coming at the big four banks, after having announced a rollout of new branches along the east cost of Australia.

He said that the bank has planned to look further across the product range in order to put BankWest to into the minds of customers.

Corfield also said that he believed that transaction accounts and home loans were at the heart of retail customer relationships.

According to Corfield, the BankWest high interest savings account has so far doubled its targets.
