Barclays continues contactless roll-out

(11 March 2010 – UK) Barclays bank has announced that all new and reissued Visa debit cards for business customers will come with contactless technology, as the bank continues with its efforts to standardise the payment method. Barclays has long been a pioneer in the cards market and was the first to introduce the contactless technology to the market in 2007.

Last March the bank began issuing contactless cards to all personal customers and now boasts over six million holders.

Business customers will now have access to the contactless technology enabling them to pay for purchases up to £15 (A$24) by simply tapping the card against the reader, reducing the time to takes to complete a transaction.

Brian Cunnington, head, debit cards, Barclays said that introducing contactless-enabled debit cards to this group of customers will provide a practical alternative to other payments such as cash and cheques and will help to make managing their money a little more convenient by making it easier to keep records of small expenses, traditionally paid for by cash.
