Bendigo chases outsourcing business after inking Unisys deal

(23 August 2005 – Australia) Bendigo Bank has outsourced its back office utility for processing credit and debit transactions to IT company Unisys. Bendigo chief general manager of Group Delivery, Richard Hasseldine, said the more efficient running of the bank’s back office would allow it to be more competitive and purse new direct credit, debit and payroll services business in the financial services community.

"The smaller banks, other financial institutions and many companies are always looking for more efficient services that cost less. We can now provide them," Hasseldine said.

Unisys already processes and manages Bendigo’s cheques processing function nationally.

Benigo said the new arrangement with Unisys would allow it to grow its market share as a Tier 1 member of Bulk Electronic Clearing System, the payment system which regulates processing of direct credits and debits to Australian bank accounts.
