BNP Paribas jets ahead of rival banks in Thai Airways deal

(Thailand) BNP Paribas will ink a deal over the next few weeks to loan US$249.4 million to Thai Airways. The airline chose the French-based bank to arrange an asset-backed financing for two Boeing-747-400 aircraft which are set to be delivered next month.

Citibank, ING Capital, Barclays, Standard Chartered and fellow French bank Credit Lyonnais also bid for the business but BNP Paribas offered the lowest financing cost.

The arrangement involves a fee of 0.125 percent with agency and legal fees costing $3000 and $35,000 respectively.
