    Sydney based MoneySwitch is an authorised deposit taking institution focussed solely on payment solutions to merchants and billers across Australia. The company was founded by chief technology officer Paul Wood in February 2003 and two years later became the first APRA authorised Specialist Credit Card Institution (SCCI) for credit card transaction acquiring. MoneySwitch is a principal member of Visa and MasterCard, and was the first new Tier 1 member of the Bulk Electronic Clearing System (BECS) for 10 years. In 2005 Jost Stollman became a shareholder and was appointed chief executive officer. East & Partners senior consultant Paul Bartholomew spoke to Stollmann.

    Gerd Schenkel joined National Australia Bank as general manager, Customer Strategy & Cross Marketing in 2005 from Citigroup where he was director of Strategy & Business Development for Australia. Before this Schenkel was head of Strategy, Development & Implementation for BankWest’s Business & Corporate Bank. He is responsible for NAB’s customer relationship management (CRM) capability, where the emphasis is on "analytical CRM". Schenkel tells East & Partners senior consultant Paul Bartholomew about the role CRM plays within the Bank and how it can be leveraged to create opportunities in Australia’s competitive business banking markets.

    Leslie Martin joined the Commonwealth Bank as executive general manager in December 2004 after a couple of years consulting to major organisations on banking infrastructure.     (1 December 2005 – Australia) Food and agribusiness focussed Rabobank started life in the Netherlands 108 years ago. The Bank opened its Australian office in 1990 and bought the Primary Industry Bank of Australia and New Zealand in 1994. Today, the Bank is one of Australia’s leading lenders to a sector comprised of 120,000 farms, and provides corporate financial services, transaction banking and business banking services to the sector. Rabobank Australia and New Zealand chief executive Bruce Dick spoke to East & Partners senior consultant Paul Bartholomew about the Bank’s Australian business, operating in a sector that has experienced several tough years, but which offers plenty of growth.

    (5 May 2005 – Australia) At last week’s interim profit announcement, ANZ reported its Institutional Banking profit had grown a steady seven percent on the previous year to A$455 million. The importance of this market segment to the bank has been evidenced by a number of key appointees in the senior management ranks over the past six months , including Joseph Healy who was named managing director of Institutional Banking in February this year.

    (13 April 2005 – Australia) National Australia Bank would be the first to admit that it has undergone a torrid period over the past 12 months or so. But despite this the bank has maintained its historical position as the leading banker to Australia’s small business sector. According to East & Partners’ Micro Business Banking Report, which looks at the banking experiences of companies turning over between A$1 to 5 million per annum, the National is the number one bank both in share of primary transaction banking relationships and lending to these businesses. The bank has 26.0 percent of primary transaction banking relationships with Micro Businesses and 30.8 percent of the A$ term lending market.
