CBA goes live with Apple Pay but excludes eftpos

(22 January 2019 – Australia) CBA has announced that Apple Pay is now available to all CBA and Bankwest customers when using a credit card however has excluded eftpos functionality from the service.

CBA customers have been restricted to using credit cards despite the bank’s push to keep domestic payment alternatives in a move that strongly favours Mastercard, the banks’ scheme partner for credit cards.

The decision to leave out eftpos comes as ANZ, previously the sole Apple Pay partner among the big four, announced that it had added eftpos functionality to its Apple Pay service.

The activation of Apple Pay by CBA has increased pressure on NAB and Westpac to follow suit.
