Clean bill of health as NAB supports Medicare terminals

(11 April 2007 – Australia) National Australia Bank has inked an agreement to support Medicare’s new electronic claiming initiative, Medicare Easyclaim. NAB executive director and CEO for Australia, Ahmed Fahour, said Easyclaim would allow patients to lodge a Medicare claim by swiping their Medicare card and debit card through their doctor’s EFTPOS terminal.

"With EFTPOS terminals installed in most doctors’ surgeries already this is a smart idea that makes good use of existing, highly secure infrastructure," he said.

Fahour said Medicare’s accreditation process was in place to ensure all financial institutions provided consistent levels of service across the network.

NAB said it would begin offering the service later in 2007.
