Couzner appointed head of M&A for HSBC Australia

Couzner appointed head of M&A for HSBC Australia

(4 August 2015 – Australia) HSBC has appointed Scott Couzner as the head of Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) in Australia.

Based in Sydney, Couzner will bring specialist M&A execution capabilities onshore to complement HSBC’s corporate and institutional banking services, including foreign exchange, acquisition financing and treasury services.

He will also work alongside HSBC’s sector specialists, rounding out our service offering to both Australian and global clients.

Couzner brings extensive Australian and international M&A experience to HSBC’s client base, having joined the bank from UBS where he was most recently the head of M&A for Southeast Asia.

He will report regionally to Jason Rynbeck, head of Mergers & Acquisitions, Asia Pacific, HSBC, and locally to Sean Henderson, head of Capital Financing, Australia, HSBC.

Commenting on the appointment Rynbeck said: “Scott is a welcome addition to our organisation and broader M&A team.

“We have M&A bankers in nearly 30 countries around the world that bring unique global opportunities to our local clients, and demand for this access is only increasing, especially in Australia.”

Australia-targeted M&A has grown 10 percent over the last year to US$56.8 billion (A$77.8 billion) in 2015, with inbound volume accounting for 46 percent of the total.

Outbound volumes have also more than doubled in this period to US$17.9 billion in 2015.

Sean Henderson, head of Capital Financing for HSBC Australia said: “Australia has strong developed market and emerging market connections, which are becoming increasingly important for our clients' looking outward for growth, especially in Asia.

“Australia is also a strong economy with a small population, making foreign savings crucial to fund domestic investment and consumption, driving continued inbound M&A activity.”

“As we support the global expansion and investment appetites of our clients, Scott will play a pivotal role in connecting clients to these global opportunities, both in and out of Australia,” Henderson said.

“Australia is a priority market for the HSBC Group and our focus on Asia is a key part of this strategy.

“As the opportunities continue to grow for our clients, our global network and M&A capability is developing accordingly,” Rynbeck said.
