eftpos offers Apple Pay to ANZ customers

(18 October 2017 – Australia) Point of sale (POS) payment terminal provider, eftpos has announced it will bring Apple Pay to customers of ANZ Bank, in a first for Australia.

The announcement means that the 1.6 million ANZ eftpos Access cardholders are now able to use the contactless transaction service, joining MasterCard and Visa card holders, who have been able to use the “tap and go” payment system since early last year.

With eftpos now available to ANZ customers who use debit cards can now bypass the higher fees that incur when choosing to tap out using accounts linked to a savings or cheque account.

“Today marks a significant milestone for EFTPOS as we move from our traditional card-based payment method into mobile, enabling consumers with an iPhone or Apple Watch to choose the EFTPOS account they wish their mobile payment to be made from, being either their [cheque or savings] account,” said EFTPOS acting chief executive Paul Jennings.
