HSBC Announces New Middle East Head of Global Banking

(26 August 2022 – MENAT) HSBC has appointed Julian Wentzel as Head of Global Banking for the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey (MENAT).

Based in Dubai, Wentzel takes over from Gareth Thomas who assumes the new position of MENAT Chief Risk Officer (CRO). A search is already underway for a successor to Wentzel’s previous role as head of global banking for the UK. Wentzel boasts over three decades of experience, having joined HSBC in 2015 as Head of Banking for Africa before becoming the group’s British head of global banking in 2019. Previously, he also worked at Macquarie Group and Cazenove in positions across client coverage, capital markets and advisory.

“Julian has extensive experience of delivering excellence for clients around the world and of leading high performing teams. He will be a valuable addition to our senior leadership team as we continue to deliver on our group’s growth strategy in this hugely important region” commented HSBC MENAT Group Managing Director and Regional CEO, Stephen Moss.

“This is a time of real opportunity for HSBC and our clients in the Middle East” Wentzel commented on his new position.
