HSBC names new Hong Kong chief

(17 September 2015 – Hong Kong) HSBC Holdings Plc’s named Diana Cesar chief executive for Hong Kong following a 15 years tenure, including her most recent role, as head of retail banking and wealth management.

Cesar will report to Helen Wong, the bank’s chief executive for Greater China, HSBC said in a statement on Tuesday.

Cesar will commence her new role on October 1 and continue to oversee retail banking and wealth management until a successor is appointed.

The changes in Hong Kong come amid a global shake-up for HSBC. In June, Europe’s largest bank unveiled a three-year plan to cut businesses to lower headcount by some 50,000 and reduce annual costs by up to US$5 billion (A$6.9 billion).

Cesar’s appointment mimics that of Standard Chartered Plc’s Judy Hsu, who was previously the UK bank’s global wealth-management head, and last week named Singapore chief executive officer last week.
