ICBC to issue smart cards

ICBC to issue smart cards

(20 April 2006 – China) Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) has rolled out a smart card issuing and management platform from US based vendor Datacard. The new technology has been implemented to support the bank’s migration to EMV standards. The platform collects magnetic stripe information from a host system and converts it to encrypted smart card data for personalisation.

ICBC general manager of Cards, Zhihong Xu, said the move to EMV was essential as large amounts of information can be securely stored and updated instantly on smart cards.

Datacard’s Affina data preparation software means ICBC can introduce smart cards into its current production environment.
