Ireland’s AIB gets a new CEO

(15 December 2018 – Ireland) Allied Irish Banks has announced Colin Hunt as its new chief executive, following Bernard Byrne’s surprise departure from the country’s largest lender.

Mr Hunt joined the state-controlled bank in 2016 from Australian bank Macquarie and moves into the top position following his role as head of AIB’s wholesale banking division.

Richard Pym, chairman of AIB said of the appointment: “We are delighted that the next proposed leader of AIB has emerged form within our own ranks. This proposed appointment also ensures continuity of the current successful strategy for the Bank.”

Mr Byrne announced his departure seven weeks ago and will join Davy, Ireland’s largest stockbroker.
