MasterCard, GE team up on green card
(15 January 2008 – Australia) MasterCard has teamed up with GE Money to launch what it claims is Australia’s first green credit card.
Known as the GE Money eco MasterCard card, the product is designed to help Australians help the environment.
One percent of cardholders’ net spend will be used to buy greenhouse gas emission offsets and rewards will automatically be converted into greenhouse gas offsets.
MasterCard Worldwide executive vice president for Australasia, Leigh Clapham, said environmentally conscious Australians were looking for ways to reduce the impact they have on the environment and were increasingly making changes to their everyday lives in order to do so.
Clapham said MasterCard had launched similar products overseas.
