NAB on the hunt for new retail head

(5 March 2020 – Australia) Mike Baird has announced his departure after three years at NAB, most recently as head of consumer banking.

Anthony Waldron, an executive general manager in the consumer bank, will become acting head of consumer banking while NAB looks for a permanent replacement.

New CEO Ross McEwan is expected to look externally to fill the role as he seeks to lift its performance in the crucial mortgage market, where NAB is losing ground to Commonwealth Bank.

Mr Baird joined National Australia Bank in 2017 as head of the corporate and institutional bank under former CEO Andrew Thorburn. He shifted to lead the consumer bank at the end of 2018, after NAB had been hauled through painful hearings of the Hayne royal commission.
