Royal Bank of Canada’s Aussie business gets VC

(4 May 2005 – Australia) Royal Bank of Canada’s Australian operation, RBC Capital Markets, has appointed Wayne Jarman as vice-chairman and head of its business in Australia and New Zealand. Jarman will join RBC from New South Wales Treasury Corporation (NSWTC) where he has been chief executive of the semi government borrowing authority since 1995.

RBC chairman, Europe, Adrian Bell, said the Australian operation had significantly grown its FX, money markets, fixed income and equities businesses over the past three years and that Jarman had the expertise to grow the business.

At NSWTC Jarman turned the organisation into a serious financial markets player, particularly in asset management.

He was instrumental in establishing the organisation’s advisory business which focussed on advising the NSW state government on funding infrastructure projects.

RBC Capital Markets is the corporate and investment banking arm of RBC Financial Group, the global brand name for Royal Bank of Canada.

RBC became the first Canadian bank to become a participant of the Australian Stock Exchange in March.
