SGB appoints retail head

(8 April 2008 – Australia) St George Bank has appointed a new Group Executive of Retail Banking to fill the role of now CEO Paul Fegan. The position has gone to Mr Les Matheson, whose previous position was Group Country Manager for Citibank.

Mr Matheson had worked at Citibank since 1997, including responsibilities of chief executive of Australia and the Pacific for Citigroup consumer businesses.

He is also the Deputy Chairman of the Australian Banker’s Association.

Paul Fegan, chief executive at St George said that the retail bank is the largest contributor to St.George’s profit, and that Matheson will be responsible for driving the on-going success and growth of the division.

Under the new leadership, the retail bank will look to continue to improve the revenue growth and expansion of the retail bank throughout Australia, while continuing to drive further efficiencies and productivity improvements.

Matheson will commence in June 2008.
