Square partners with Vodafone for retail presence

(18 July 2017 – Australia) Payment technology firm, Square has announced that it is partnering with Australian telecommunications network, Vodafone to stock and sell its point-of-sale system.

Vodafone will be selling the Square Reader for A$5 when bundled with selected mobile plans.

Selected Vodafone stores will be selling the Square Reader for just A$5 - the usual price is A$59 - when bundled with Vodafone’s 24-month A$60-and-above Red Plans and A$50-and-above SIM Only Red Plans.

Additionally, new business customers signing on via Vodafone will not have to pay a processing fee on the first A$1,000 in card payments.

Speaking to The Australian, Square’s Australian country manager, Ben Pfisterer said: “We share a pretty common view in how we grow our presence in the market,” he said. “They had an innovative approach as well with a fully bundled solution which makes it easier for businesses to get started.

“We don’t have a retail footprint while Vodafone has over 500 stores across the country, so for us to be in there is great.”

Vodafone’s executive general manager enterprise, Stuart Kelly, added, “We are focused on three key segments: retail, trades/construction and professional services.

“Where it makes sense, we will be actively bringing new partners on board.”
