SUN sets sights on small businesses

(21 April 2008 – Australia) Suncorp has set its sights on small businesses with both new initiatives and an appointment to head up the area. Suncorp has said that due to the growth of small businesses and the increase in demand for financial services in this sector, they have decided to roll out a number of new products and services.

The new range of initiatives focus on the small business customer in particular, including a direct dial call centre dedicated to assisting its small business customers.

Through the call centre, customers can currently have small value loans, credit cards and bank guarantees approved.

Suncorp's executive general manager small business Peter Larsen said the bank had seen significant growth in its small business portfolio.

He added that in the last year alone their small business banking portfolio has expanded by 15 percent and deposits have risen by 19 percent.

Mr Larsen said he was keen to optimise the intermediary business channels and eventually established more small business centres in Queensland

David Harrys has been appointed as the new national small business manager, a role which was established a few years ago to add focus to the small businesses segment for the bank.
