Top 10 Highlights from Singapore Fintech Festival 2021

(16 November 2021 – Singapore) The 6th edition of the Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF) 2021 took place from 8 to 12 November as a hybrid digital and physical event with the theme “Web 3.0”.

The Festival featured more than 350 sessions, over 700 speakers, over 260 exhibitors, and 14 international pavilions. It was streamed “live” to over 60,000 participants, including representation from more than 7,000 companies, government agencies, educational institutions and organizations from over 130 countries.

Here are the top ten stories from the SFF 2021:

  1. Singapore and Philippines to link real-time payment systems
  2. Singapore Financial Data Exchange (SGFinDex) enters second phase
  3. Singapore setting aside S$180 million to ramp up AI investment and launches two programs targeting the finance and government sectors
  4. Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) Fintech Regulatory Sandbox gets an upgrade
  5. Winners of the Global Veritas Challenge 2021 announced, recognising their innovative and responsible AI solutions
  6. Project Greenprint, which focuses on delivering quality data on sustainability, announces four digital platforms
  7. MAS explores retail central bank digital currency (CBDC) opportunity
  8. ChekFIN, a global fintech registry, to go live on 1st of December, allowing financial institutions to easily identify fintech companies for collaboration and development opportunities
  9. Crypto-linked Mastercard payments cards coming to Asia
  10. World’s first digital trade financing pilot completed

“For the last five years, MAS has grown the SFF into a leading global platform for fintech. It is now time for the SFF to further a global mission,” said MAS Chief Fintech Officer Sopnendu Mohanty. “Singapore has an important role to play as a knowledge centre and as a platform to enable greater collaboration and exchange between the public and private sectors around the world.”
