Vietnam’s Smartlink setting up mobile banking service

(11 January 2013 – Vietnam) Vietnamese payment switch operator Smartlink is setting up a mobile banking service, partnering up with Singaporean vendor Tagit to help it build the Mobeix platform. Tagit said Mobeix would be available to over 40 million card holders belonging to Smartlink’s member banks.

First to roll out the service will be Vietcombank, allowing customers to download an iOS, Android, BlackBerry or Java app that can be used for account information queries, fund transfers, bill payments and mobile top-ups.

Through the Tagit system, Smartlink customers will also be able to connect with third parties such as utility companies and government agencies.

Smartlink deputy chief executive, business development, Nguyen Dang Hung, said: 'More Vietnamese consumers are adopting the mobile lifestyle, so we're putting mobile at the core of our strategy to ensure that we keep pace with what customers want.'
