Westpac opens Shanghai branch
(11 January 2008 – China) Westpac has opened the doors of its new Shanghai office which will focus on businesses trading between China, Australia and New Zealand.
The bank said the branch would assist customers benefiting from China’s demand for Australian resources and agricultural products from New Zealand.
Westpac general manager for Asia, Yogan Rasanayakam, said the opening of a fully licensed branch in Shanghai was a milestone for the bank’s Asian aspirations.
The branch will be run by Westpac general manager for China, Andrew Whitford and have a staff of 15 people.
The bank has had a representative office in Beijing for 25 years.
