ANZ appoints risk head

(15 October 2007 – Australia) ANZ has appointed David Stephen as its new chief risk officer, effective immediately. David Stephen has been in the role since June 2007 when former head of risk Peter Hodgson moved on to another role inside ANZ, as group managing director, Institutional.

Stephen, who will report to chief executive officer, Michael Smith, was previously the head of risk in the institutional division.

Also, as ANZ’s chief wholesale credit officer, he was responsible for the credit, market and operational risk and compliance functions in the business, corporate and institutional clients business.

Smith, the ANZ chief, commented that, having worked with Stephen recently, he believes his international experience and credit skills will help him in the role.

Stephen has held senior roles at Lehman Brothers and Credit Suisse in London, New York and Hong Kong.
