Citi Hiring 4000 Tech Staff for Digitisation Scale-up
(9 June 2022 – Global) Citi plans to hire over 4,000 technology and innovation staff to shift its institutional banking client base online.
Of the 4,000 new recruits, 1,000 will join the markets tech team, Citigroup's head of markets and enterprise risk technology Jonathan Lofthouse commented. Data specialists are in particular demand across banking and the wider jobs market. Citi currently has more than 30,000 software engineers.
"We're trying to digitalise as much of our client experience as possible, front and back, and modernise our technology. Those firms that can digitalise fastest are going to create competitive advantage" Lofthouse stated.
"Everyone in lockdown suddenly had to do everything digitally, whether than was getting groceries delivered or watching more Netflix. We've always seen the tech market to be competitive but particularly at the moment, coming out of the pandemic, we've seen a digital explosion across industries” he said.
