Citi launches SMS service

(31 July 2007 – Malaysia) Citibank is launching an SMS based service in Malaysia that will allow customers to pay credit card bills using their mobile phones. Citibank is forecasting 500,000 customers will use the service over the next two years. Customers will also get reminders when bills need paying.

The bank’s head of consumer e-business Roy Heong said the goal of the new service was convenience for customers.

Citibank’s Malaysian customers already receive text alerts notifying them of account activity, such as large deposits and withdrawals, overdrawn accounts, and unauthorised credit card transactions.
