New internet payment deployment downunder

(Australia) - Australia's Commonwealth Bank (CBA) has become the first bank in the country to go live with BPAY View, a new internet bill presentment and payment service. CBA NetBank customers, in an initial roll out of the service, will be able to register to receive their South East Water bill at their internet banking site, with other financial institutions and billers being introduced to BPAY View progressively throughout 2002.

NetBank has seen rapid growth over the past 12 months and now has over 1.5 million customers, part of the Bank's total of over 2 million online customers and over 7,000 billers accepting BPAY as a payment method.

One in every two Australian households has internet access and 4 million retail customers are registered for internet banking, with close to half of the 6 million monthly BPAY payments being executed across the internet.
