Mass computer fraud in Taiwan

(15 June 2004 – Taiwan) Many Taiwanese are closely monitoring their bank account details following revelations that more than 100,000 personal internet banking passwords have been stolen by computer hackers.Taiwan’s Criminal Investigation Bureau said a Taiwanese man had been picked up by authorities along with 45 million bank account numbers and corresponding passwords.

The accused had been reportedly working with hackers in China to plant modified version of Trojan Horse programs in banks’ internet banking systems.

The CIB said the bank accounts included saving funds with more than US$5.9 million in them.
