We’re (nearly) all going on a summer holiday, CFOs say

(16th December 2003 – Australia) Many of Australia’s major corporations are rudderless for large chunks of the year with almost 40 percent of Top 500 Corporate CFOs saying they go on holiday for an entire month over the Christmas/New Year period, according to East & Partners.Another 14 percent said they normally take three weeks off over the holiday period. Further, more than two-thirds of CFOs said the Christmas/New Year period isn’t the only time of the year they pack up the family and disappear on holiday.

While gauging the holidaying habits of Australia’s premier purse strings controllers, East also discovered that around 65 percent of CFOs choose to holiday overseas rather than domestically.

East’s research revealed that 7.8 percent of CFOs take statutory days off only over the holiday period; 12.1 percent take one week off; 13.9 percent take a fortnight off; and a sorry 2.9 percent have no holiday at all.

Just under 10 percent were leaving it very late to organise their holidays, saying they had not yet decided upon their plans for this year.
