HDFC Bank Business Banking Head Sanjay Souza Retires After 27 Years

(4 November 2026 – India) HDFC Bank has announced the retirement of Sanjay Souza, Group Head of Business Banking, Emerging and Micro Enterprises, ending a 27-year career during which he played a pivotal role in developing the bank’s small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) banking operations.

Souza officially retired on 31 October, according to a regulatory filing lodged with the Singapore Exchange on 2 November.

A member of HDFC Bank’s senior management team, Souza was instrumental in expanding the lender’s SME banking capabilities, making significant contributions across both credit operations and business development.

In its filing, the India-based lender acknowledged Souza’s longstanding contribution to the organisation, describing him as one of the principal architects of its SME business.

“During his association with the Bank for nearly 27 years, [Souza] was one of the key architects of the bank’s SME business, contributing significantly across both credit and business,” HDFC Bank stated.

The bank also formally expressed its appreciation for Souza’s service and contribution to the development of its business banking franchise.

Souza’s departure marks the end of a lengthy tenure at HDFC Bank, during which he helped shape its approach to serving India’s SME and emerging enterprise sectors.
