(7 April 2017 – Global) Western Union announced in a statement that United States (US) based customers can now use Apple Pay to make international money transfers from the US to more than 200 countries worldwide.
The feature will extend to UK customers later this year, according to Khalid Fellahi, senior vice president and general manager, Western Union Digital Ventures.
According to Western Union, the app with Apple Pay makes transferring money as simple as the touch of a finger with Touch ID, meaning customers don’t need to manually fill out lengthy account forms or repeatedly type in shipping and billing information.
“Today, 60 percent of all digital money transfer transactions globally are initiated via a mobile device,” Fellahi said.
“By bringing Apple Pay as a payment method in the U.S. — and soon the U.K. — Western Union is delivering an exceptional experience across our mobile platform, allowing our customers to conveniently and reliably move money whenever they please.”
There has not been any indication that the feature will be made available for Western Union’s business customers.
