St George CEO retires

(12 August 2010 − Australia)Greg Bartlett St George Bank’s chief executive officer has announced his retirement from the bank after 28 years of service.Mr Bartlett, who will officially retire on 1 December this year, joint the bank in 1982 and has held a number of senior positions which ultimately led to Mr Bartlett being appointed chief executive in December 2008.

The soon to be ex CEO has led the group’s treasury and capital markets division and also spent nine years as group executive of the bank’s institutional and business banking unit.

Mr Bartlett said that with the (Westpac) merger bedded down the time was right to step back from day to day executive life and pass on the baton.

And the baton will be passed to Rob Chapman, currently BankSA’s chief executive.

While a replacement for Mr Chapman at BankSA has not been announced, Gail Kelly, Westpac’s chief executive, said that they were fortunate to have an executive of Rob’s calibre ready to step into the role.

His deep multi-brand expertise at St George and BankSA, combined with exceptional banking and commercial acumen, make Rob an ideal appointment, Mrs Kelly added.
