Ex Mac Banker to police industry

(10 June 2010 – Australia) Jonathan Coultas, former Macquarie banker, has been named as one of the four division heads of the Australian Securities & Investments Commission’s upgraded markets supervision team.Mr Coultas, who left the investment bank for the corporate watchdog 18 months ago, will be given the task of policing the industry when market supervisory powers are transferred to ASIC later this year.

As head of market surveillance, Mr Coultas will take on the responsibility of monitoring the financial markets and its participants.

The new team will also be on the lookout for offences including insider trading and market manipulation.

Since joining the market watch dog after leaving Macquarie Bank Mr Coultas has become a senior manager in the market participants and stockbrokers division.

Other key supervisory staff will include Amanda Mark, who will head ASIC’s relationship team, Bill McNickle, who will run compliance, and Tom Veidners, who will be responsible for investigating cases of market misconduct.
