(28 August 2009 – Australia) ANZ and MySpace have teamed up to launch a reloadable prepaid Visa card which will be marketed to MySpace users. The MySpace Recharge card is issued by ANZ and appears to be principally aimed at teenagers and other young people which are current members of MySpace’s online community.

The card can be used to make payments online, over the phone and in stores, up to the amount pre-loaded by the cardholder. The MySpace Recharge card has a maximum balance of A$1,000 and can also be used for cash withdrawals at ATMs where Visa is accepted.

ANZ managing director retail products John Harries said that prepaid cards have been growing in popularity because they offer simple, convenient and secure alternatives to cash for young people.

Mr Harries added that the MySpace Recharge card aims to deliver this in a responsible manner since it is pre-loaded with people’s own money.
