ANZ opens doors in New Caledonia

(2 March 2005 – Asia) ANZ is set to open a representative office in the New Caledonian capital, Noumea. The bank said the office will support growing business and economic links between Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and the rest of the Pacific region.

The office will handle payments, treasury, trade finance, and personal and private banking for customers in the region. However, ANZ will not be undertaking commercial banking activities in New Caledonia itself.

ANZ group managing director, Pacific, Bob Lyon said ANZ was already the leading bank in much of the Pacific and the office in Noumea gave it a presence in one of the region’s largest economies for the first time.

“It will allow businesses and personal customers to directly access ANZ’s capabilities in Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the Pacific,” Lyon said.
