Apple Pay coming to Hong Kong, other territories

(20 June 2016 – Hong Kong) Last week, Apple announced that it is planning to launch it mobile payment service, Apple Pay, in Hong Kong as well as expand in Europe to countries such as France and Switzerland in the near future.

The service will also be available for websites by the end of 2016, according to the technology giant’s senior vice president, Craig Federighi.

Credit card issuers, Visa, Mastercard and American Express have confirmed that their customers will be able to use the service when it launches in Hong Kong later this year.

Apple said banks in Hong Kong include Standard Chartered, DBS, Hang Seng Bank, HSBC, Bank of East Asia, American Express and BOC Credit Card, a subsidiary of Bank of China.

Apple has already launched with mixed success in six countries – Australia, Canada, China, United States, United Kingdom and Singapore.
