Aussies still wary of internet purchases

(31 August 2007 – Australia) A survey put out by the Office of the Australian Privacy Commissioner (APC) shows that Australians are increasingly concerned about providing personal details for purchases made via the internet.APC found that 50 percent were concerned about providing information over the Internet and that 45 percent believed ID theft was a real possibility.

Almost ten percent of Australians have been impacted by identity theft and a further 17 percent knew somebody who had fallen victim.

A quarter of all Australians said they provided false information in online forms to protect their identity.
