Business Development & Expansion

(12 December 2007 – Australia) BankWest is set to add financial planning services to its product portfolio from the start of March next year. The bank will recruit 100 financial advisers to provide financial planning in existing branches and the branches it will roll out as part of its east coast expansion over the next three years.

BankWest retail chief executive, Ian Corfield, said the bank’s goal was to make financial products and advice more accessible and cost-effective.

He said higher income earners were more likely to have an adviser but that many Australians on lower or middle-incomes were missing out on opportunities to build their wealth.

BankWest will offer investment and insurance products through its branches with a view to capturing what it said was a currently under-catered for part of the market.
