Barclays upgrades m-banking

(28 January 2010 – UK) British bank Barclays has announced it has made improvements to its mobile-banking system, in what the bank is claiming to be a UK first. The new m-banking feature allows customers to make payments to existing or new third parties that have previously been set up online.

The bank’s m-banking system, launched in May 2009, also lets customers transfer funds between accounts, view balances and mini statements.

The mobile site receives around one million visitors a month and is compatible with Apple, HTC, Nokia, Motorola, Blackberry and other internet capable mobiles.

Sean Gilchrist, digital banking director, Barclays, said that the bank is aiming to take the lead in the market with its mobile phone banking site, which the bank considers to be the most flexible way of evolving services for customers.
