(21 October 2026 – United States) Bank of Montreal (BMO) has appointed Tim Cox as head of its US operations, a key business segment contributing more than 40 per cent of the Canadian banking group’s total earnings.
Cox will assume the role on 1 November, succeeding Darrel Hackett, who will transition to the position of executive vice-chair and senior adviser at the bank.
Having joined BMO in 2010, Cox brings more than 15 years of experience with the institution, having held several senior leadership positions across legal affairs, regulatory compliance and risk management.
BMO chief executive Darryl White said Cox had played an important role in supporting the bank’s expansion while strengthening its governance and regulatory capabilities.
White highlighted Cox’s contribution to establishing the risk management and compliance frameworks underpinning BMO’s growth, positioning him to lead the bank’s strategically important US business.
The appointment marks a leadership transition for BMO’s US operations, which remain a significant contributor to the group’s overall financial performance.
