BNP Paribas Announces New Low Carbon Transition Group MD

(10 August 2022 – France) BNP Paribas has hired an experienced new managing director (MD) for its Low Carbon Transition Group to support the Bank’s ongoing zero carbon economy initiatives.

Francesco Lello, a former executive director at Santander Corporate and Investment Banking, has joined the French head quartered Bank’s low carbon transition group as an MD in the Paris head office. Lello spent almost three years at Santander Corporate and Investment Banking after similar roles with Bank of America and Rothschild.

BNP Paribas 's low carbon transition group is headed up by Séverine Mateo, its former head of energy, resources and infrastructure banking. The team’s mission is to contribute to the acceleration of its corporate and institutional clients’ transition to a sustainable and low-carbon economy.

When the group was announced in Q3 2021, BNP Paribas reported that it would amalgamate 250 professionals worldwide of which 150 would come from its current advisory capital markets and industry teams and 100 would be new recruits noting most of the group were employed by BNP Paribas already. Team members predominantly boast extensive energy, metals and mining investment banking experience.

“While continuously expanding its platforms at the service of the European economy, the group is pursuing its growth trajectory, its technological developments, and its support to clients in their transition towards a more sustainable economy” stated BNP Paribas CEO Jean-Laurent Bonnafé commenting on the Bank’s Q2 results.
