(30 November 2004 – UK) Bank of New York is ramping up its presence in the UK with the opening of a new business centre in Manchester. The new centre will create 350 new jobs at a time when mergers and the moving of back office jobs to China and India have led to the shedding of thousands of jobs in the UK. The new office will bring BoNY’s total staff in the UK to 3000.
BoNY said it has significantly grown its activities in the UK and Europe over the past five years and is tipping this to continue.
The bank’s head of Europe Tim Keaney said Manchester, which is located in the North West of England, offered excellent transport and business infrastructure and a wide pool of talent.
BoNY is currently seeking out the best location to build a 40,000 sq ft facility.
