(12 November 2010 – Australia) Data released by the Reserve Bank of Australia has shown that while the total value of credit and charge card transactions, including advances, fell in September, they were higher than a year earlier.In September Australian’s clocked up 133.798 million transactions totalling A$20.362 billion, dropping 1.7 percent in value terms from August, when 134.789 million transactions worth A$20.708 were reported.
Despite the decrease from August, the number of transactions grew 5.0 percent in from September last year and their value increased 5.8 percent.
Total credit and charge card balances outstanding increased from A$47.666 billion in August to A$47.809 in September.
From an individual cardholders perspective the average credit card account balance increased 3.7 percent A$3.262 in September, from A$3,146 a year earlier.
