CBA appoints new head of Equities and Capital Markets

(30 January 2007- Australia) Commonwealth Bank has appointed David Hancock as head of Equities and Capital Markets.He will report to CBA head of Global Markets and Treasury, Marten Touw, and be based in Sydney.

Hancock’s mandate at CBA is to run the newly amalgamated institutional equity and debt capital markets businesses for the bank globally.

“We want to achieve a leading position in both the Australian equity and debt markets and I believe we have started laying the foundations to get there,” Touw said.

Hancock has joined CBA from Japanese Shinsei Bank where he was most recently general manager, Equity Capital Markets. He also played a key role in the joint venture between Shinsei and Macquarie Bank to develop the listed infrastructure market in Japan.

Before joining Shinsei, Hancock was co-head of Institutional Equities for JPMorgan Asia, and before this managing director and head of JP Morgan’s Equities division in Australia.
