Citi Announces New Head of SCT

Australia
Citibank, Citigroup
Environmental, Executive Changes, Social and Governance (ESG), Sustainable Finance

(16 March 2022 – Australia) Ian Campbell has taken on the newly created role of Head of Sustainability & Corporate Transitions (SCT) to advise Citi’s Australian and New Zealand corporate and banking clients on energy transition.

The newly created role seeks to address opportunities generated by CFOs transition to clean energy in line with a concerted global clean energy shift.

Campbell will advise Citi’s corporate and banking clients to address challenges and identify opportunities a low carbon economy presents as the Australian economy transitions towards more sustainable business practices. Campbell was most recently Citi Australia and New Zealand Head of Debt Capital Markets (DCM).

His appointment follows a wider expansion of Citi’s global SCT division including the appointment of Rapheal Erasmus, Asia Pacific Head of SCT in 2021. Campbell will report to Erasmus and Tony Osmond, Head of Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory (BCMA) in Australia and New Zealand. Campbell will remain Sydney based and work with the bank’s sector and product team to drive client dialogue around sustainability. Woolworths, Lendlease and Wesfarmers were specific companies cited by Campbell as key examples of domestic Australian enterprises that have recently issued green use-of-proceeds or KPI-linked bonds or loans.

“ESG and the transition to a low carbon economy is firmly front and centre in the boardrooms of corporate Australia. Here at Citi, we are seeing an increased demand from our clients to help develop their ESG strategies, including re-financing, identifying new technologies to invest in, and seeking insight into how peer companies are tracking” Campbell commented.

“We see significant opportunity to help our clients, especially with the increased reporting and regulation coming from Europe and the rest of the globe, but also to harness the technology advancements and investment opportunities that exist in the region” Campbell added.
