(1 October 2026 – Global) Citi has gone live with multiple markets on the Swift payments scheme, enabling bank clients to access cross-border instant payments across several countries through a single account structure.
The offering, available via Citi’s WorldLink Payments Service, removes the need for financial institutions to open local accounts, establish bilateral agreements, or build custom integrations in each market — historically the primary barriers to enabling instant cross-border payments at scale.
The service is accessible to more than 12,500 financial institutions connected to Swift. Current live markets include Australian dollars via the New Payments Platform, pound sterling via the Faster Payments System, and Indian rupee via the Immediate Payment Service. Citi has also expanded its USD clearing capabilities, enabling direct fund transfers to Citi US beneficiaries.
“Through our continued collaboration with Swift, we’re helping banks connect to instant payment capabilities across multiple markets through a seamless and scalable model,” said Debopama Sen, head of payments services at Citi. “Combined with Citi’s global network, this initiative enhances speed, transparency, and reach while helping clients meet evolving expectations for how money moves.”
