(15 June 2017 – Australia) Australian payment services provider Cuscal and South Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung have announced a partnership with will enable Samsung Pay for 1.7 million cardholders across 38 financial institutions including Teachers Mutual Bank, Credit Union Australia and Bank Australia.
Other major banks that have enabled the feature include Westpac – who turned on the digital wallet for its customers earlier this year, Citibank and American Express. Samsung expects the remaining major lenders, NAB, ANZ and CBA to be on board by the end of 2017.
Mark Hodgson, head of mobile payments at Samsung Australia, said there is strong demand from users of Samsung smartphones to download the company's digital wallet and pay with it. The company says there has been more than 240 million transactions processed in the past 18 months globally.
Late last year, Cuscal and Samsung’s major competitor Apple announced allows 31 banking clients from the payment service provider to provide contactless payments through iPhones.
