(9 September 2021 – Asia) Kevin Sneader, who was voted out as head of McKinsey & Co amid an uproar over its role in fuelling the opioid crisis in the US, among other scandals, has been hired by Goldman Sachs to co-run the firm’s Asia-Pacific operations.
The move makes Mr Sneader the bank’s most prominent outside hire for Asia ever, arriving as the company looks to move beyond international probes into its role in the ransacking of Malaysia’s 1MDB investment fund.
Mr Sneader will serve as co-president for the region, excluding Japan, the firm told staff on this week in a memo. Working from Hong Kong, he will join as a partner and become a member of the management committee.
“He brings significant international experience and a wealth of expertise to the firm across strategy, organisation and operations, having worked with global clients in multiple industries and functions for more than three decades,” the bank said. “He will help manage our day-to-day operations and advance our businesses in the region, including in China, where we continue to make meaningful progress on our strategic plan.”
