Former HSBC chairman to drive KKR in Asia

(22 November 2006 – China) Former HSBC group chairman Sir John Bond has taken up a new role as senior advisor to US private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co (KKR).Bond spent 45 years with HSBC and was a major contributor to its global expansion program, particularly in Asia.

He is currently chairman of Vodafone, chairman of the Shanghai International Business Leaders Advisory Council and also a member of the China Development Forum, which advises the Chinese government.

Bond will continue to work in China and across the Asia region for KKR.

KKR said his strategic insight and unique network and relationships in Asia and China would bring tremendous value to the firm.

KKR was founded in 1976 and has offices in New York and Menlo Park in the US, and also in London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Paris.

The firm has completed some 146 transactions over the past 30 years worth about US$263 billion.
